Note
This game explores the core loop of a turn-based RPG, where the player explores a world and engages in combat to grow stronger or obtain key items. Although this part was not fully realized in this prototype, there is still a short exploration segment I included. The combat itself also contains its own simple gameplay loop. On the player's turn, they can either choose to attack the enemy, or stay safe and recover their own health. Once it's the enemy's turn the player must avoid their attacks in a similar bullet-hell sequence to Undertale.

Actually one of the coolest games of the semester... The graphics are really engaging, and the battle mechanic feels so unique. I love the chess theming too! I felt like a pawn getting attacked for real!!
I really love the aesthetics and the music — they fit the theme perfectly and create a nostalgic atmosphere. The gameplay is also very fun, and it actually reminded me of the Pokémon games I used to play, which made it feel familiar in a good way. The core mechanics are straightforward and easy to understand, and the bullet-hell style segments during enemy turns add a nice layer of action and tension. Overall, it’s a strong prototype with a great mix of turn-based strategy and active dodging.
It's a bit like undertale. Interactions are minimal but for what's there it seems NICELY polished.
Nice game! The gameplay felt very polished and easy to pick up. It would be cool if the attacks maybe did a bit more damage or there was some bonus for avoiding damage.
Very fun and cute game! the gameplay was very smooth. reminded me of undertale/deltarune gameplay.
Visually stunning game, plays very smoothly.
Only issue is that the bullet hell attacks were extremely easy, I was able to avoid most attack sequences by not moving. Maybe adding a bullet directly at the player's starting position within the first few bullets would be good to enhance the gameplay. More bullets in general as well to really emphasize the bullet hell.
I really love the simplicity and straightforward nature of this game, just like Undertale, there is no need for a tutorial, easy for any player to pick up and have fun with!
I really liked how it was turn-based, and how you're only able to move in the same way actual chess pieces move. Hoping to see levels where there's different pieces involved!
Love the graphics! I think the mechanics/gameplay was very engaging and it would be fun if there was some dialogue from the chess pieces.
I like how simple the game is and how you incorporated a turn based system with a bullet hell mechanic. I feel like if you added maybe at least one enemy or have it so that when the enemy is at a low health make the bullet-hell faster too add a bit of challenge.
Enjoyed the undertale-esque mechanics. Wish there were more interaction types.
Amazing work. I can see this becoming a very well-rounded game with further expansion.
Rian: I loved the pixel art in this game as well as the animations. The overall game in general is super fun, light and enticing! Hope to see more of this!
Samantha: The actual game itself is a super creative idea. I really hope to see the story progress and for the game to get harder. Nice work :))
a very fun simple game that entails a character facing off with a chess piece, you run away from them like pacman and occasionally can choose to heal or attack. the only issue is I don’t know how you’d die from the attacks, I think it can even be harder!
